IT strategic planning model

Developing an IT strategic plan is a one of the principal duties of a CIO, yet paradoxically it is the one activity that creates the most trouble for them. The real shame of it is creating an IT strategic plan can be a very straightforward and simple thing to do. Simple in that it is not a complex activity. Since I prefer to keep things both simple and easy what follows is a very straightforward, linear, strategic planning process.

Call it what you like: application modernization, converged infrastructure or "IT transformation" as Intel does in this video. Modernizing apps and servers via a strategic roadmap is imperative to keep pace with competitive demands.   

This Intel video featuring IT Global Operations and Services VP and GM Kim Stevenson, while a bit pitchy, has some substance to why virtualization and application modernization are imperative. Intel, she claims, saved $650 million in capital avoidance.
