Much will depend on the apps developed for it....or "Glassware" as Google is calling it. So far, they seem geared for the consumer space...CNN announced news alerts this morning. Elle magazine is doing an app although none of the apps can contain ads. And there another social app called Ice Breaker, according to a NYT story.

So the consumer space seems where the device might get traction although let's face it: consumers would not pay $1,500 a pop, which is what developers are paying for it.

We'll see if the enterprise apps start appearing. Some CIOs have said they envision Glass having applications in retail and engineering.

It's a early (and crude) version of wearable technology and what's to come. It's what the Newton was to what became the iPhone.

From what I've read, the glasses are a tad uncomfortable. I use a Fitbit pedometer and Cyclemeter on my iPhone. In a sense, they are early versions of wearable technology.

I would agree with some of the other comments - Google glass, as with other innovations in wearable technology, is a sign of how things are rapidly evolving. It may seem like a toy now, but lets face it, it was only a few years ago when cell phones were a novelty and a luxury!

Vor zwei Wochen fiel mir auf dem Forbes-Blog ein Artikel von Keith Engelbert mit dem Titel "Werden CIOs in der Cloud verschwinden?" auf. Demzufolge glauben 17 Prozent der CFOs, dass die Rolle des CIO innerhalb der nächsten fünf Jahre verschwinden wird. Sehen Sie das auch so?

約18ヵ月前に、筆者はクラウドに関するブリーフィングのために顧客と共に本社にいたのだが、そこでのセッションで非常に興味深い質問がされた。HPはAmazon Web Servicesを使っているのだろうか？これは何てことはない質問のように見えるのだが。

結局、回答は決して易しいものではなかったが、とても興味深い内容だった。この質問がきっかけとなり、その後熱い議論がいくつも展開されたのである。実は、スピーカーはその点について不明だったので、きちんと調査をしたと正直に回答している。彼らが、経費管理記録を分析した結果、Amazon Web Services（AWS）への支払いがクレジットカードで行なわれていることが判明した。

つまり、これでAWSが利用されていることが分かったのだが、何の目的で利用されたのかは不明だ。どのようなデータがクラウドに転送されたのだろうか？そのようなデータは元々どこにあり、どのように保護されていたのだろうか？といったことを知る有効な手がかりはなかった。

この結果に対して、すぐさま議論が起こった。コントロールする仕組みがないまま、個人が外部のITサービスを勝手に利用することを許した場合、企業はどのようにコンプライアンスを維持するのか、といった具合だ。

数週間前に、Forbesのブログで、「CIOはクラウドに消されてしまうのだろうか？」と題したキース・エンゲルベルト（Keith Engelbert）氏の記事に出くわした。彼によると、CFOの17%が、今後5年間でCIOという役職は消滅してしまうと考えているそうだ。果たして本当にそうだろうか？

Vor etwa 18 Monaten traf ich einen Kunden in unserem Hauptsitz für ein Cloud Briefing. Während der Sitzung kam eine sehr interessante Frage auf: Nutzt HP Amazon Web Services? Klingt einfach, nicht wahr?

Wie sich herausstellte, war die Antwort alles andere als einfach, dafür aber wirklich interessant. Sie löste hitzige Debatten aus. Tatsächlich erklärte der Redner ganz offen, er wisse es nicht, man habe aber Nachforschungen angestellt. Demnach hatten sie den Verwaltungskostenbericht analysiert und darin eine Reihe von Kreditkartenzahlungen an die Amazon Web Services (AWS) gefunden.
