jdodge just created content Why the CIO should be your sustainability champion....

This is a topic we have not talked about much at the ECF. I've love to hear from some CIOs -- pro or con -- about pushing green (and greenwashing) initiatives.

jdodge just commented on Certainly, IT shops will be in Cloud

Certainly, IT shops will be doing a lot more outsourcing...or acquiring of cloud services. The latter should sharpen the CIO's eye for good partners. Maybe one way to look at it is outsourcer = hired gun....cloud services require a partner. Or maybe that's wishful thinking. It's hard to see where cloud by credit card (i.e. Amazon Web Services) is a partnership.

Thoughts?

And consumers bought it in droves. Whatever Apple did differently it has done for decades...over the long haul. It never wavered from excellence in function and design. What was its last failure - the Newton? That was a long time ago.

What's even more ironic is how it vacated IT departments in the 90s by getting out of the server business. And now its consumer products are wreaking havoc in IT departments (in a good way). Who would have thunk it?

An IT Service Strategy for the cloud leveraged by ITIL V3
Thu, 04/07/2011 - 19:34

Cloud Computing is here. Powered by mature and robust virtualization technologies, both public and private cloud initiatives are well underway or implemented at best of breed enterprises and solution providers. For enterprises just getting started, it might be that your users are wondering why they can get cloud services in minutes or hours while getting similar services “in house” is dreadfully slow, painful, and often more expensive.

Do you leverage your Shared Service Center effectively?
Thu, 04/07/2011 - 18:05

The reson that you build a shared service center is often to ensure competency but also to optimise cost. In order to validate if the implementation meets expectations you would need to set a clear BC before you start off.

For the IT Department to become a full fledged business partner with the means (and the ends) to deliver to the business strategy together with the professsions (business lines) we need to instore Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) with Cost, Consumption and Chargeback as point of departure (to ensure the necessary means and ends).

The IT Department as a full-fledged business partner?
Wed, 04/06/2011 - 10:34

We also need to define a clear “IT Business Model” (“This is how we deliver IT services to the business”) and “Business (IT) Value proposition” (“This is how we suppo
